Phillip Mills is one of the pioneers of the international fitness industry and a driving force behind the popularisation of the modern group fitness experience. Phillip is CEO of Les Mills International, the world’s leading creator of group fitness programs. A committed advocate for sustainable business, author and former athlete, Phillip developed the Les Mills group exercise system which comprises 19 programs licensed to 15,000 facilities in 80+ countries around the world, and is taught by 100,000 certified instructors to millions of people each week.

Phillip Mills was born into an athletic family. His father Les, mother Colleen and sister Donna all represented New Zealand at Olympic and/or Commonwealth Games in track and field.

Phillip Mills competed in the 110m hurdles at the 1974 Commonwealth Games in Christchurch and in the 110m and 400m hurdles at the 1978 Commonwealth Games in Edmonton, Canada.He attended the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) on a track and field scholarship, and graduated with a degree in philosophy in 1978.

In 2004, Phillip Mills was named Ernst & Young’s New Zealand Entrepreneur of the Year. In 2009 he won Kea New Zealand’s World Class New Zealand Award for New Thinking.
